PictureKen keeps the lady in turquoise in his sites!
We posted an abbreviated blog yesterday due to wifi difficulties and weren't able to post any pictures. We have posted a number of photos in the July Photo Gallery. We won't bore you with more details on our trip yesterday, but there is something that yesterday's ride caused us to think about that we will bore you with...

This observation builds on some comments we made in an earlier blog contrasting Ken and Cam. In that blog, we mentioned that Ken is our early starter and makes sure that we get going every day. Cam....not so much! Anyways, the riding pattern from Montreal to Trois-Rivieres builds on those traits.

As we mentioned, we started slowly, navigating our way out of Montreal. When we finally reached Repentigny North across the Riviere-des-Prairies from Montreal, a woman rode up to us wearing turquoise while waiting for a stop light. It's important (as guys) for us to point out that she wasn't carrying any gear on her lightweight racing bike...

When the light went green, she was off assuming she could out-ride us, and in fact, she was moving at a pretty good pace. Ken, in the lead, started with Cam trailing (often the case in the morning!). You may not think that Ken is that competitive, but Cam was surprised that we rode at a pace like we've never ridden in the morning before - Ken was on fire! We rode about 20 kms without letting her out of our sites, and then Cam convinced Ken to stop for some cold drinks at McD's in Lavaltrie. When Cam asked Ken about it later in the day, Ken's reply was "we could have passed her if we wanted"!

Apart from demonstrating that Ken is a typical guy, it also highlighted how our personalities translate into the ride. Ken is generally out front leading in the mornings and has more energy, whereas Cam typically follows in the morning - often a little concerned about ensuring he preserves energy for the afternoon. However, Cam gains energy through the day and his riding gets stronger after lunch - so typically he leads in the afternoon and Ken is the one trailing. This was the case on the road from Montreal to Trois-Rivieres, and Cam joked that Ken was lagging in the afternoon because he used all of his energy trying to keep up with the girl in turquoise!

Note that this pattern isn't the case everyday, but has been a very common trend through out adventure. We mentioned that it is critical to be very compatible with your riding partner to do a 61 day adventure like this...it also helps to be complementary. With this pattern, we complement each other, helping to pull the other along when they need pulling!
